Deforestation is the process in which humans cut down a large number of trees for their benefits and they use them to make furniture and different items for the betterment and advancement of life. As we know very well, forests are called the “lungs of the earth” because they work as a lung to clean the air . Plants inhale carbon dioxide which is harmful for us and exhale oxygen which is good for us. They also make our environment fresh and healthy. However, humans are cutting down forests very fast to build their houses, roads, factories, and farms. As a result, our planet is facing many environmental problems that are directly linked to deforestation.
First of all, trees help in keeping the temperature of the earth normal. They provide shade and release moisture into the air, which keeps the surroundings cool. When trees are cut down, the weather becomes hotter, and global warming increases. The temperature of our planet is rising day by day because there are fewer trees to absorb harmful gases. Furthermore, forests help to store carbon, but when we cut them down, this carbon goes back into the air, which makes the problem worse.
Secondly, deforestation causes soil erosion. The roots of trees hold the soil tightly, but when the trees are removed, the soil becomes loose and washes away during rain. As a result, fertile land becomes barren, and crops do not grow properly. Moreover, it also leads to floods in rainy seasons because the rainwater flows directly into rivers without trees to absorb it. Therefore, deforestation not only affects plants and animals but also harms human life by causing natural disasters. In addition, deforestation destroys the natural homes of animals.
Forests are the shelters of millions of species, but when we destroy forests, many animals lose their homes and food sources. Because of this, some species die, and others move to cities in search of food, which creates problems for humans as well. For example, when forests are cut, elephants, tigers, and monkeys enter villages and cities. This conflict between humans and animals is increasing due to the loss of forests.
